Fellow Australians, it’s crucial to recognise that climate change is not just a future concern; it is impacting our lives today. The effects of our changing climate are already being felt, and we must act now to address these challenges.
Climate change presents a variety of challenges to our communities.
Many individuals question the relevance of climate change to their lives, often thinking it doesn’t directly impact them. The truth is, climate change affects each and every one of us right now. Just look at the alarming increases in devastating floods, extreme droughts and heatwaves that we are witnessing today.
Severe flooding can lead to loss of life, spread of diseases, and cause extensive damage to infrastructure and our precious ecosystems.
While extended periods of droughts and heatwaves can severely impact food production and pose serious risks to human health.
These challenges not only increase the death rate, but also threatens food availability, and reduced productivity, resulting in an economy that struggles to thrive, ultimately impacting everyone negatively.
The urgent challenge of global warming represents the biggest risk to our planet and the well-being of its population.
These issues are not isolated incidents but rather signs of a larger crisis that we must address.
Humanity should embrace its role as the protectors and custodians of the environment, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
A commitment to environmental preservation is fundamentally linked to achieving peace and unity among nations, communities, and faiths. It is only through this shared commitment that we can rise to meet the significant challenges that threaten our planet’s future.
Yours sincerely,
Kosta Hadjimarkou
